How To Instill A Sense of Autonomy in Your Toddler
Thank you @isaiahsmethod for sharing!
Teach kids to take care of themselves and their environment by doing these 3 simple things!
1.Stop Hovering Over Them
Hovering over our children is basically telling them they cannot be trusted. So, the first steo toward fostering a sense of autonomy is to STOP. When we give them space and time, they learn to handle themselves and their environment.
2. Give Them Plenty of Choices
A simple question as “Would you like your milk cold or warm” goes a long way. Why?
It gives the young children some control over their life, and they learn to make decisions for themselves.
This plays a big part in building their self- esteem
3. Provide The Tools They Need
Imagine having to adapt living in a house full of Giants! How would you feel if nothing was accessible to you? Now, that’s how a 2-year old feels
Walking in their Shoes! There are so many expectations and restrictions we impose on our children- stop jumping, stop screaming, go to bed etc
Any human being would become resentful if all he did was to follow rules. The same goes with young kids.
But by giving them some control over their life, they learn that we trust them and they are motivated to do more!
