Senses Within The Womb
So this post may seem very odd in positioning but I remember reading during my second trimester at the Doctor’s Office and wanted to share with you! The article reiterates the vitality of a sound mind and body in preparations for, during the pregnancy journey and following the birth. Are there any secrets, tips or tricks that you have used to maintain balanced well-being and mental health?; if so share below, let us keep the conversation going. I am confident that you will prove to be an invaluable resource for so many!
Did you know that unborn babies can hear, feel, see and taste in the womb?
Around 18 weeks of pregnancy, your little one hears their very first sounds. By 24 weeks, those little ears are rapidly developing. Your baby’s sensitivity to sound will improve even more as the weeks pass.
Although a baby’s eyes can “see” light starting around week 16, their peepers aren’t fully formed until about week 20. The eyes first open between weeks 26 and 28.
Babies only hours old are able to differentiate between sounds from their native language and a foreign language by learning in the womb.
The sense of touch is the very first to develop around 7 weeks. 13 to 15 weeks pregnant, your baby’s taste buds have developed, and she can start sampling different flavors from your diet.
After around 18 weeks, babies like to sleep in the womb while their mother is awake, since movement can rock them to sleep. They can feel pain at 22 weeks and at 26 weeks they can move in response to a hand being rubbed on their mother’s belly.

For me, headphones over my belly playing classical or jazz music daily was so soothing and sure did calm our exuberant bundle of joy! In utero, our baby girl was prepping for the Olympics, not literally, but sure did seem like it as she was ALWAYS on the move as early as 14 weeks- the flutters changed to kicks and bumps and thuds! As awful as it may sound, those very movements were the weakening of my being, it was the reminder of life and the treasured being I was carrying inside!
